About the Programme
If you are looking for the time, space and platform to develop and showcase your writing internationally, this is your opportunity. Applications for the International Writers Workshop 2027 are now open. It is a fully funded creative retreat organised by the International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Writers from around the world are invited to live and create in Hong Kong for four weeks, from 26 February to 25 March 2027, and to share their work.
This year’s theme is “Inheritance”. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to connect their work to the theme. The programme culminates in the IWW Literary Festival. Founded in 2004, the workshop has hosted 150+ writers from over 60 countries.

📋 Who can apply?
- Open to writers from all countries.
- Must have at least one literary book published by a press (self-published books are ineligible).
- Must currently reside outside Hong Kong.
- Must have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese).
- Must attend the welcome ceremony in the first week and the full residency.
